SMALL INTERFERING RNA AS CELL DEFENCE FROM TRANSGENЕSIS (review)

I.Ya. Shikhov

The current state of investigations is discussed on integration of foreign DNA to genome of animals or plants. The data are presented that suggested about an inhibition of expression of irregular genetic information under the influence of so-called small interfering RNA (siRNA). RNA interference (RNAi) that leads to silence of gene on transcriptional or posttranscriptional level is of great importance in cell biology as mechanism of the defense from viral, transgenic and trans-poson insertion and the periodization of functional genome activity during growth and development of organism.

Key words: transgene, DNA, RNA-interference, shRNA, mRNA degradation, Dicer complex, RISC.
